HeART of Gaza: Children’s Art from the Genocide – Nenagh Arts Centre

HeART of Gaza: Children’s Art from the Genocide

HeART of Gaza Exhibition, February 21st – March 1st, FREE

HeART of Gaza grew out of a WhatsApp exchange of children’s drawings between Mohammed Timraz (Gaza) and Féile Butler (Sligo).
Images of soldiers, tanks and bleeding bodies, from artists as young as three, spurred on the friends to create the exhibition as a platform for the most voiceless, the most vulnerable and the most impacted in this genocide. Originally showcasing 24 living artists, aged 3 to 17, and 2 murdered children, aged 9 and 13, HeART of Gaza is constantly expanding, as more and more children participate in workshops at the project’s Artists’ Tent in Deir al Balah.

The exhibition offers an intimate insight into the lived reality of childhood in a genocide, depicting both the horrors and moments of beauty, of fond memories tinged with melancholy , of resilience and defiance, and of hope for the future. Donations are encouraged for ‘We Are Not Alone’, founded by Mohammed Timraz to provide for his community in Deir al Balah.
